Ajit Agarkar and his selection panel convened in Mumbai to finalize India’s Test squad for the upcoming five-match series in England.

The Ajit Agarkar-led Indian men’s selection committee has announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to begin on June 20. Shubman Gill has been named the new Test captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who recently announced his retirement from the format.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been appointed vice-captain, ahead of senior players like KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah.
Top-order batter Sai Sudharsan earns his maiden Test call-up, while Karun Nair returns to the squad after an impressive domestic season. However, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been left out. According to Agarkar, Shami is still working on building the fitness required for the demands of Test cricket.
Additionally, Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan have also been omitted from the main squad. Both players are part of the India A team that will tour England to play two first-class matches and an intra-squad game ahead of the Test series.
