PM Modi Mourns on Bengaluru Stadium Stampede
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery.”
The stampede reportedly occurred after a temporary slab covering a drain near the stadium collapsed under the weight of a massive crowd, triggering panic and chaos. The celebration, hosted by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, drew an unexpectedly large turnout, despite entry being restricted to valid pass holders.
Authorities said that the RCB victory parade and felicitation ceremony, meant to be a moment of joy, turned into a nightmare as fans surged past barricades to catch a glimpse of their favorite cricket stars. Police were seen using mild force earlier in the day to manage the unruly crowd.
Sources also confirmed that shortly after the RCB team departed from Vidhana Soudha, incidents of stone pelting were reported near the premises. Some of the stones reportedly struck the building, and several journalists covering the event were injured during the ensuing stampede.
Officials have launched a probe into the incident, and emergency services continue to assist those affected. The state government is expected to issue an official statement soon.
