JAKARTA, MAY 29 — In a dramatic and unexpected revelation abroad, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid admitted that Article 370 gave an impression that Kashmir was separate from the rest of India — a statement that is now sending political shockwaves back home.
Speaking in Jakarta to prominent Indonesian think tanks and scholars as part of an all-party diplomatic mission, Khurshid, who once held the post of External Affairs Minister, said:
“Kashmir had a major problem for a long time. Much of that was reflected in the thinking of the government in an article called 370 of the Constitution, which somehow gave an impression that it was separate from the rest of the country.”
The remarks were made as part of India’s international push to explain Operation Sindoor, the country’s counter-terror response to the deadly Pahalgam attack, in which 26 innocent civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

“Elections were held, a government was elected, and the prosperity that has come to Kashmir is evident. Wanting to undo that progress would be unfair to the people,” Khurshid added.
